Dr. D. N. Mishra
M.Sc., M.Phil.,Ph.D.


A Post Doctoral Fellow of the Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences of The Netherlands, Dr. Debendranath Mishra researched at the International Institute for Asian Studies, Leiden University on traditional Indian medical texts. He had obtained his M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in the faculty of science from SPPune University, Maharashtra. Prior to the present appointment as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mishra has a career over 35 years marked by accomplishments in teaching, research and academic administration of large institutions.

As Director of the Sub-Campus, Latur of Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, he enriched the school of Management Sciences with an innovative program like PG Diploma in Disaster Management of UGC and enabled students to support District administration as DDMOs.  In the past, he has successfully discharged the responsibilities of his appointments to the posts of Registrar, Solapur University; Controller of Examinations, Registrar-in-charge of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University and Head of the Department of Botany and Biotechnology of Abeda Inamdar College (University of Pune), Maharashtra, India. Being a nominee of the Chancellor and member of the Senate, Academic Council, Management Council, IQAC, PG Board of studies of different universities, the association of Dr. Mishra has been greatly acknowledged by the authorities and the students of these institutions. Apart from being a teacher of repute, he introduced many reforms and streamlined university governance with quality improvement, especially in the examination systems with remarkable success.

As a NCLite (The CSIR’s National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India), he contributed to research and conservation of endangered plant species of Western Ghats’ Forests by Tissue Culture techniques, a project of the Department of Forests & Environment, Govt. of India. In order to scientifically link the experiential wisdom of the ancient Indian medicinal Acharyas to the treatment of chronic health disorders, Dr. Mishra has focused on critical study of Sanskrit medical texts and re-establishing the indigenous plant resources through biotechnological tools and processes for new drug developments. Five research scholars under his guidance have received their Ph.D. awards. Two patents are under pipeline for registration and over forty-five research papers have been published in his conceptual applications. He is conversant with six Indian languages too.

Dr. Mishra has visited many important institutes of European countries and Asia to deliver special lectures and to participate in academic programmes. Equally, his participation in the national education and research development programmes and his contributions to the causes of social work carried out by dedicated NGOs are of additional value to his varied experiences.
